Jade Palace Restaurant: Reviews & Ratings
We started enjoying Jade Palace in 1981. We moved away and haven’t been back until today. It was fantastic! The food and s as good as we remember. The service was amazing! You need to go here!
My first time trying this place was yesterday, came back again the next day bc it was exactly what I was looking for a old school take out place with quality food. If yall go back in time there was a place called LEE'S PALACE in baytown but they've closed since I've moved from that area. But this is that taste that I've been missing since they've closed. The fried rice (any kind) is good, the chicken wings are amazing fresh and crispy and also the egg rolls are Good. The owner is very nice and professional and a hell of a cook, congratulations jade palace you've got yourself a new regular customer
1st time I've been here since 1988 I don't think a single thing has changed in all that time. Really, nothing. Menu items, menu paper? Paint on the wall? This place is a time capsule. Anyhow the egg rolls are just outstanding. I had pressed chicken which I remembered ordering in the 80's. Still good. The orange chicken left somethings to be desired. But them shrimp egg rolls
The best Chinese food anywhere ever! Been eating here since the 80s. The egg rolls are unique in the universe. As is the Mongolian Beef. I have not had it's like anywhere since I moved from Humble. My favorite.
My first five star rating EVER. People near and far do get ready for the best Chinese food in your life. They have been serving delicious Chinese cuisine for over 40 years. I couldn't believe how nice and happy everyone was. I felt like I was part of the family and everyone knows that food made with love tastes the best.
Let's talk history. I have gone to Jade Palace for as long as I can remember 30+ years. Last night I took my husband and kids for the first time in ten years to meet my family for dinner. I was nervous because of the new owners but the new owners had the same recipes as the old and taste incredible! Literally they made something off menu for my dad that he liked from the old days. I love this place, just wish it was closer to home.
I grew up in Humble, and moved away in the 90's, and frequently dined at Jade Palace with my family. I really enjoyed the food, service, ambience and portion sizes back then. I was back in the area last week, so I decided to take my 20 yo daughter bc she loves chow mein with the dry noodles but we cannot find it anywhere in our new town anymore. I read the reviews and was prepared that this might not live up to my 35+ year old memories. I stepped in, and it was like walking back in time (in a fun way). I know people who haven't been before will see older decor and may judge it negatively, but I often find the opposite at restaurants where it looks like a time capsule. Yes, the varnish on the tables has yellowed in the past few decades, but they were neat and clean and that is what's important. We were greeted quickly by our waiter, Caleb, a young man who quietly and efficiently did his job, which also fit into the ambience of Jade Palace nicely. The menus had changed slightly, but I was ecstatic to see my favorites were still there! We ordered the lunch chicken chow mein with wonton soup and moo goo gai pan with egg drop soup. We upgraded the "large egg rolls" and added a half order of BBQ ribs and a pot of hot tea. I was given a choice of tea (new since the 90's) and chose Oolong. It came out after our water and soup were delivered, and was steeped perfectly and very fragrant. No dumping hot water over tea bags and bringing out imperfectly steeped tea like at other places! :) The soup bowls were much larger than anticipated and the "large" egg rolls were so 1980's portioned I could have wept with joy from nostalgia overload!! I cut into mine, and they contained a shrimp, plenty of vegetables and finely minced and well seasoned pork. My wrapper was a little underdone at the thickest part of the wrap, but I don't eat all the wrapper anyway so I didn't mind. My daughter's was perfectly fried and crispy. The egg drop soup had a nice flavor, so many people make it too thick and bland, and here it was lighter with sooi many pretty egg stands floating in the yellow broth. I didn't see black pepper flakes, but it had a nice peppery flavor. The won ton soup had 2 small slices of pork floating in it (which she ate before I could get a picture) and the dumplings were stuffed with a large amount of meat and seasonings. The only drawback she said was that the broth was a bit bland on its own, so she didn't finish all the broth. Honestly, after eating the bowls of soup and egg roll, I was pretty satisfied, so for a lighter lunch, I'll just order those, but then the entrees came out. Lunch portions include a cup of rice (we each choose fried) and a smaller(?) portion of the main dish. Hers also came with a cup of the dry noodles. Everything was cooked perfectly. Chicken was cooked well and not chewy, vegetables in the moo goo gai pan were crisp-tender and the sauce was light but flavored well and not too salty. My daughter loved hers as well. The ribs took awhile to come (note: order them first and then order the rest of the food.) An older gentleman came out twice to apologize and explain they make them fresh when you order them, and honestly, I wouldn't have been able to eat my entree if we'd gotten them sooner, bc a half order of full ribs (not the tiny short ribs I remember) could be an entree by themselves! We took about half of our entrees and the ribs home, and made 3 more meals from them later, so dinner was also covered! Overall cost before tip was around $38 (the lunches were $12.50/ea with the upgraded egg rolls) and we ended up VERY full with leftovers! When I'm in the area again, I'll definitely make a planned detour to eat here again and bring the rest of my family. I'm glad to see that a new generation is trying to bring this restaurant back and not completely change everything just to "fit in".
We had a wonderful time last night at Jade Palace. The food was wonderful. Since Tommy took up and had struggles in the beginning he has worked hard to step up and improve the food. My husband loves their homemade egg roll.
